At approximately 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, state police troopers from the Cortlandt barracks were dispatched to Oscawana Lake Road in the town of Putnam Valley for a report of menacing with a weapon.
An investigation determined $30 was given to Peekskill resident Sean S. Date and the victim to share by a customer as a holiday gift for their refuse collection services. Date attempted to forcibly take the entire $30 of U.S. currency from the victim using an ax, police said.
Date was charged with first-degree robbery (a Class B felony), fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class A misdemeanors.
Date was arraigned before the town of Putnam Valley Court, and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear before the court on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
